Group Art Therapy Program

SPRING 2026 SCHEDULE

Many Moons provides a weekend Group Art Therapy Program twice a year. Every 8-week group cycle is inspired by a new creative theme that is woven into each week’s gathering. This model introduces the use of metaphor & symbolism into the therapeutic process. The theme guides our personal projects, invites peer connection and offers a fresh, creative opportunity to returning group members. Each group will explore how our unique identities, life experiences and interpersonal style builds life-long resiliency.

The theme for our upcoming SPRING 2026 cycle is 🫜UNDERGROUND🫜. We will gather inspiration from the majestic expansion of roots beneath the surface and consider the powerful networks of life that we cannot see unless/until it emerges. Both the concept and the physical artistry of root systems invites curiosity about what can grow in dark, compact, and seemingly unforgiving spaces. Some plants even fully blossom underground (called geoflory!) when the surface is not safe enough. This inquiry leads us to encounter what grows within us before others can witness it.

The term true leaves used in plant identification refers to the 2nd set of leaves that emerge later in a new sprout’s development. These leaves provide more accurate information about the plant’s nature. What a remarkable metaphor for a young person’s identity formation!

Each week begins with a welcoming circle to get to know one another and establish peer cohesion, followed by creative exercises with intentionally selected art materials and guided facilitation. group members consider metaphorical connections between the theme and themselves and share personal expressions and insights with peers. Projects and discussion prompts will change each week to foster meaningful introspection and peer affirmation. Individual, weekly art pieces will come together into a single, cohesive work of art to bring home on the final session.

We are offering 8 different groups and each group has 8 spots available. Ages, grades, and genders for each group are subject to change as registrations are received. Our ultimate goal is to create positive, cohesive peer groups and therefore, groups may not align with traditional age/grade/gender categories.

NIGHT GARDEN: Building self-understanding and self-regulation through creative art-making and sensory-based collaboration.

Grades preK- 1st, 9:00am- 9:45am

Grades 1st- 3rd, 10:00am- 10:45am

Grades 2nd- 4th, 11:00am- 11:45am

Young children are learning to navigate and adjust to the ever-expanding world around them; physically, emotionally and socially. They are developing internal capacities, while seeking and leaning on their external resources. This group will invite curiosity through the lens of a new garden bed, filled with unknown, unfamiliar seedlings. Through symbolic art-making, members will experiment with multiple art materials to create a personal representation of themselves and their relationships.

This group will also explore other symbolic connotations of “underground”, such as deeper parts of ourselves that seem hidden. Group goals include building self-awareness, celebrating positive social behavior, providing a sense of belonging, and inviting safe opportunities to share struggles and challenges.

BENEATH THE SOIL: Enhancing insight into how we understand and encourage ourselves, while navigating complex decision making, social boundaries and deep emotional states.

Grades 4th- 6th, 12:00pm- 12:45pm

Grades 6th- 7th, 1:30pm- 2:15pm

Early adolescence is a time of profound transformation. As young people develop their sense of identity and more sophisticated perspective-taking skills, they must also navigate an increasingly complex social world. This developmental stage can provoke feelings of isolation while living in an evolving physical body. Using a forest’s root system as a creative spark, group members will use a variety of art materials to represent their family, friends, special settings, and personal experiences to build a deeper understanding of themselves.

This group endeavors to uplift and empower one another while coping with this developmental transition. Peer group art-making offers an opportunity to learn and benefit from both observing someone expressing themselves, and receiving acceptance and reassurance when sharing one’s own story.

TRUE LEAVES: Examining our ever-evolving identities, how we recognize and represent ourselves, and know our location in a dynamic world.

Grades 7th- 9th, 2:30pm- 3:15pm

Grades 9th- 11th, 3:30pm- 4:15pm

Early Adulthood, 4:30pm- 5:30pm *60-minutes

Adolescents and young adults are embarking on one of life’s most daunting transitions. Group members will be invited to examine themselves and their surroundings through symbolic art-making. Using a variety of materials as the creative spark, group members will craft symbolic representations of the people, environments and experiences that have informed their identity development.

This group will provide a safe, non-judgmental space for teens and young adults to practice authentic self-expression through personal and collective art-making. The intention of this group is to celebrate the transformative nature of "witnessing"—both observing peers expressing themselves through art and being witnessed while sharing one’s own story.

Deposit Policy & Payment Schedule

The cost of the group program is $95.00/ per session, totaling $760.00 for the 8-week cycle (unless otherwise prearranged). The group cost is a "bundle-fee", which means families commit to pay for all 8 weeks, even if their child misses a session. A non-refundable deposit of $285.00 is required upon registration to reserve a spot. Once group programming begins, the deposit is applied to the final three groups.

The weekly session rate will be charged to your card-on-file each Wednesday following the first 5 group sessions. Claims for group sessions may be submitted to your insurance plan as arranged. However, any coverage will not reduce your out-of-pocket cost.

We understand that covid is still a significant concern and highly contagious. After offering various accommodations for the last 6 years, we are not longer able to waive/refund due to missing group due to illness. We trust that parents/caregivers will keep their child home when sick.
