Many Moons Psychotherapy

Group Art Therapy Program

FALL 2014

Sat., Oct. 25th- Sat., Dec. 20th, 2014
Each group meets once a week,
for
7 consecutive weeks
(except for 11/8 and 11/29 )

Since 2005, Many Moons Inc. has been offering group programming with a wide variety of clinical themes, creative exercises and social skill building for children ages 5-18. Different from individual and family therapies, the groups at Many Moons are more structured, directed, and social. All of the groups are rooted in a strengths-based approach and focused on building self-soothing strategies. Group therapy can be a complimentary addition to individual and family therapies, Occupational and Speech/Language services and case management support.

Personal Shield: Exploring identity and self-acceptance through portraiture and memory mapping
Girls, grades 2-4 9:00am - 9:45 am
Girls, grades 4-6 10:00am - 10:45am
Girls, grades 7-9 11:00am - 12:00pm

This group will focus on the theme of girls' self-perception, judgments and beliefs about how they are perceived by others. The group process will create a safe space to disclose personal experiences of being judged by others, provide an opportunity for mindful and kind peer reflection, and improve self-worth through peer support. We will explore body image, social image and self-in-community through a variety of art materials as we create various forms of self-portraits. The intention of this group is predominantly non-verbal and celebrates the transformative nature of both witnessing peers and being witnessed by peers while in the creative process.

Bridge to the Future: Building pathways and confronting barriers through metaphor and symbolism
Girls, grades 9-11 12:30pm - 1:30pm

This group will offer an opportunity to explore and share about each participant's unique dreams for her future. Through an array of narrative art-making experiences, we will create a safe space to consider and navigate the inevitable approach of "the future". The intention of this group is predominantly non-verbal and celebrates the transformative nature of both witnessing peers and being witnessed by peers while in the creative process.

Volcanoes & Floods: Managing our bodies effectively to contain, understand and express strong feelings
Boys, grades 4-7 1:45pm - 2:30 pm

This group series will focus on building a strong understanding of our bodies as a complex and powerful tool. Using metaphor and guided imagery, participants will explore how their "container" works. The format will include various games, activities and breathing techniques to enhance body control. Art making, teamwork, and meditation will create opportunities to practice holding onto big feelings as well as sharing them safely with peers. The intention of this group is predominantly non-verbal and celebrates the transformative nature of witnessing peers and being witnessed by peers while in the creative process.
